Green Tea Extract
The
polyphenols(epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG), which make up
an average of 50% of Green
tea extract, may support weight loss by increasing energy expenditure.
Healthy young men who took two green tea capsules (containing 50
mg of caffeine and 90 mg of EGCG) three times a day had a significantly
greater energy expenditure and fat oxidation than those who took
caffeine alone or placebo.1 Green Tea Extract
is one of the 21 Active Ingredients used in Thermadrol
to help increase energy and weight loss. One cup of green tea typically
contains 90-200mg of EGCG. Green Tea does not increase your heart
rate as most other fat burning ingredients, it is even a mild heart
rate reducer.
Green tea is
the natural dried leaves of the tea plant, Camellia sinensis. Black
tea is oxidized green tea. Green tea, unlike black and oolong
tea, is not fermented, so the active constituents remain unaltered
in the herb. Both have been used in Asia for thousands of years
as beverage and medicine. When Green Tea is decaffenated it does
not show the same benefits of natural unprocessed green tea.
Green tea extract
is a bioflavonoid-rich, potent extract which is used primarily for
fighting free radicals. It has a high content of polyphenols, which
are a class of bioflavonoids. Its key ingredient,(-) Epigallocatechin
Gallate (EGCG), protects against digestive and respiratory infections.
(A solution of 1 mcg per ml of EGCG heavily inhibited influenza
virus in vitro.)
It helps block
the cancer-promoting actions of carcinogens, ultraviolet light,
and metastasis from an original site in the skin, stomach, small
intestine, liver or lung. Higher quantities (0.5% to 1% of diet)
were protective against high total and LDL-cholesterol levels on
a cholesterol promoting diet in rats.
EGCG also reduces
platelet aggregation about as much as aspirin or Ginkgo Biloba extract.
Adding milk
to a green tea drink cancels out green tea's beneficial properties.
