Ketosis

The term ketosis is actually a short word for the term lipolysis/ketosis; meaning that ketosis is the process following lipolysis. Despite the misinterpretation, that ketosis receives by certain people; ketosis is actually a normal process of the metabolism. In other words, ketosis is the releasing of ketones or burned fat cells through the process of urination.

In ketosis, the body burns fat instead of carbohydrates. Thus, when the body burns fat, it is experiencing ketosis. The process of ketosis happens when the carbohydrate level in the body is lowered enough to cause the body to burn fat. In the body of a person trying to lose weight there may be stored carbohydrates preventing ketosis. In order for some people to reach the state of ketosis, it may take up to 48 hours of carbohydrate restriction before the body actually begins to burn fat and enters ketosis so that fat cells are excreted from the body.

To speed up ketosis and to maintain the ketosis process in the body some weight conscious individuals consume diets rich in protein, which in turns accelerates the ketosis process effectively. The ketosis process verifies that the body is producing ketones or burning fat cells.
